Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

What are PRP/PRF Treatments?

What are PRP/PRF Treatments?

PRP (platelet rich plasma) and PRF (platelet rich fibrin), are naturally occurring components within the blood that support healing and restoration throughout the body. PRP and PRF are packed with essential growth factors for replenishing and restoring healthy tissue in the body. The difference between PRP and PRF is that PRF does not contain any anticoagulants to prevent blood clotting in the collection tube. This allows formation of the fibrin matrix, which provides a more slow, sustained release of growth factors over a longer period of time. At Moderne Medical, we generally inject PRF in various areas of the face that show signs of aging and collagen loss. In addition, our experienced nurses utilize a Hydraneedle to stamp PRF into the skin under the eyes for enhanced results. PRP is typically used as a serm in treatments such as microneedling or laser resurfacing. Your provider will determine which is more appropriate for your concerns at your appointment.

What is the Difference Between PRF and PRF Gel?

PRF and PRF Gel are both platelet rich fibrin. The main difference is that PRF Gel is spun at a lower G-force to recover a greater number of platelets. More platelets means quicker tissue growth and an enhanced treatment outcome! The gel acts as a natural filler to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, creating a younger, fuller-looking face. PRF gel is injected into the face as a natural filler under the eyes, cheeks, chin, and nasolabial folds, which are the lines between the nose and mouth. Patients who opt for PRF Gel may need less treatments than those who do traditional PRF.

How Does it Work?

During treatment, a small sample of the patient’s own blood is first collected. It is then placed in a specialized centrifuge where it is rapidly spun in order to separate the PRP/PRF from the rest of the blood. Once the PRP/PRF is obtained, this ultra-healing concoction is then used as a serum for microneedling and/or re-injected into the targeted treatment area. The PRP or PRF then begins its natural function of restoration and healing for improved results over time.
